2003 Camp
QCG had a great camp with over 50 gymnasts from 3 states. It was a great time for all. Thanks again for the visiting coaches: Chris Tollin, Josh O'toole, Sean Sawyer, Greg Ganim, and Bo Morris.

QCG Grad to compete for USA
Stanford Gymnast, Marshall Erwin, has been chosen to compete at the 2003 World University Games.

USA Championships
DJ returned to competition at the USA Championships. He finished 5th on Parallel Bars and 21st AA in the Senior Division. Former QCG gymnast, Marshall Erwin, won rings.

2003 Banquet
Another great year was celebrated at our banquet. Seniors - Alex Schutte, DJ Bucher, Aaron Rakes and Bill Brash gave great speaches. Thomas Cocks, Cory Osborne and Mathew Petruso win most improved awards. Ari Shifman, Cory Weeks and Aaron Rakes won most coachable

Whittle Continues the QCG Tradition
Julian Whittle was placed on the USAG Jr National Team at the Jr. Nationals. Julian is the 6th QCG National Team Member. Others were Jon Bleisener (90), Mike Morgan (93-95), Matt Metzger (96), DJ Bucher (97,98,01-03) and Aaron Rakes (99,01). Julian placed 13th AA and 5th on Rings at the Jr. Nationals in the Class 3 division.

Harrison is National Champion!
John Harrison (Junior Elite 1) scored a 9.5 on the vault to become the 2003 Jr National Vault Champion.

Rakes Wins 3 Medals at Nationals
Aaron Rakes finished 9th place in the All Around at the 2003 Jr National Championships. Aaron also made Parallel Bars (5th) and High Bar (6th) finals in the Junior Elite 1 Division.

Four Finalists at Nationals
Queen City placed 4 gymnasts in finals at JO Nationals. Aaron Rakes (JE1) on all around, p.bars and high bar. John Harrison on Vault. Andy Sauber in the all around and Julian Whittle in the all around and rings.

QCG Academic All Americans
Five Queen City Gymnasts have been named Academic All Americans by USA Gymnastics. A gymnast must be recommended by their coach and a teacher and maintain a 3.5 GPA. John Lane, John Harrison, Alex Schutte, David Ortiz and Aaron Rakes are Academic All Americans.

Heading to Nationals
Queen City will be sending 8 gymnasts to Nationals in Augusta, Georgia. The boys competed at Regionals, Junior Elite 1's won the team competition. Aaron Rakes, John Lane, John Harrison, David Ortiz, Alex Schutte, Andy Sauber, Matt Vultaggio and Julian Whittle will be going to Nationals.

The Junior Elites won the team competition at State Meet other highlights inluded:

Marshall Erwin Nissen Award Nominee
QCG Almumni Marshall Erwin is one of 7 gymnasts nominated for the Nissen Award. The Nissen Award is the Heisman Trophy of gymnastics. The Stanford gymnast was the 2002 NCAA National Ring Champion.

QCG Hosts Summer Camp
Queen City is hosting a summer camp for boys August 8-10. This is open to competitive gymnasts that are class 5 or above.

Circle of Stars
The boys competed at the Circle of Stars Competition in Indianapolis. Highlights included All Around Champs Jeremy Siegel (Class 6), Julian Whittle (Class 3), Andy Sauber (JE 2) and Aaron Rakes (JE 1).

Blaine Wilson Invite
Results for the Blaine Wilson Invite are posted.

2003 Winter Cup
Aaron Rakes competed against the best gymnasts in the country and came in 16th AA. This was Aaron's highest finish at this prestigious event.

2003 Black Jack Invite
The optional boys traveled to Las Vegas and had a great showing. Andy Sauber (Junior Elite 2) and Julian Whittle (Class 3) finished 2nd AA. John Harrison (Junior Elite 1) finished 5th AA.

2003 Winterfest
Junior Elites win the team title with Aaron Rakes winning the all around. Class 6 Mathew Alverado and Class 3 Julian Whittle also win the all around.

Thanks, for a Great Winterfest
Just wanted to thank the Boosters for running a tremendous meet. I can't believe we had 430+ kids and I was home on my couch by 5:30 on Sunday. A Special thanks to Brad Price and Vicki Brash for doing such a good job. Also thanks to the set up and tear down crew, the scorers and the hospitality committee that kept the coaches well fed!

2003 Hyde Park Invite
The Class 5 and 6 teams competed at the Hyde Park Invitational and both teams finished in 2nd place.
Class 5 Cory Osborne (pictured) won the all around. Class 6's Jeremy Siegel and Paul Montague placed 2nd in the all around.

2003 Whitfield Invitational
The optional boys competed in Michigan. Andy Sauber (JE2) and Julian Whittle (Class 3) both won the all around. Aaron Rakes (JE1) and Taylor Nelson (Class 4) finished 2nd in the AA.

2003 Windy City
The optional team went to Chicago for the Windy City Invite. There were over 700 competitors. QCG had a great showing. Andy Sauber (pictured) won the All Around in Junior Elite 2. Aaron Rakes (JE1) and Julian Whittle (Class 3) finished 2nd in the all around and Taylor Nelson finished 6th AA (class 4).

Whitfield Scholarship Recipient
Congratulations to Aaron Rakes for receiving the Whitfield Scholarship. The scholarship is given each year to a top gymnast in the region to be used for training expenses. Aaron becomes the third QCG gymnast to win this scholarship. Other winners were Michael Morgan (1995) and DJ Bucher (2002).

Metzger a StarHawk
Former QCG member Matt Metzger has been named a StarHawk at University of Iowa. The StarHawks team is a collection of student-athletes at the University of Iowa who truly represent the very best the intercollegiate athletics program that the UI has to offer.

2002 Intersquad
QCG started off the season with the intersquad. It was the first time for the new class 6's to compete. Congrats to John Harrison's team for winning the meet!

Future Wolverine and Buckeye
Aaron Rakes has accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Michigan. DJ Bucher accepted a scholarship to Ohio State University. Aaron will be enrolling in the fall of 2003 and DJ will begin college in the fall of 2004.. Congratulations Aaron and DJ!

Future Stars
Taylor Nelson (pictured) competed in the 10-11 Regional Future Stars and finished 5th AA. He has qualified on to Nationals in Colorado Springs and hopes to qualify to the Future Stars National Team.
Conner Hundley (7th AA) and Alex Hoersten (2nd AA) competed in the 8-9 yr old division. Great job guys!

DJ and Keith Honored by USAG
DJ Bucher was one of 4 gymnasts selected to try out for World Championships on Parallel Bars. Two gymnasts will be selected to compete parallel bars for the USA. Keith Pettit was named the National Developmental Coach of the Year for USAG. Article
